Microsoft's next release features open-source code
Microsofts next release of Complete Cluster Edition of Windows Server 2003 will feature Message Passing Interface (MPI) library.
"MPI is key middleware that was designed by a consortia of all the supercomputing vendors in the 1990s to allow the easy portability of code. It abstracts away things like low-latency interconnect, and our focus is making it super easy for ISVs to move their code."
Ok, good. I advocate open-source, but I don't claim it comes without downfalls. This way, perhaps Microsoft will suffer the drawbacks of both open and closed source :) Seriously, this might be an indication that Microsoft in the future will try to use standardised libraries, with a higher standard-accuracy as a result. That would benifit us.
